D. Mertensas ended his professional career

One of the most famous Belgian footballers of this century, Dries Mertens, has announced his retirement.

The 38-year-old forward became most renowned for playing at Napoli, where he scored 148 goals over nine seasons.

After his career in Italy, the veteran spent another three years at Galatasaray, with which he won three Turkish championship titles.

In his last season, he showed excellent statistics, scoring 9 goals and providing 18 assists in 35 league matches.

For his national team, D. Mertens played in 109 matches and scored 21 goals.
