In the Sunday match against "Kauno Žalgiris," the "Riteriai" experienced yet another defeat – the team has not won for four consecutive games, and it has become increasingly difficult for them to convert created chances into goals. The only goal for the Vilnius team in this match was scored by Lazaras Sajčičius, but it was not enough for victory – the capital team lost with a score of 1:3.
This was one of the most challenging matches for the "Riteriai" this season, especially in organizing attacks and creating gameplay. Coaches and players themselves have noticed that lately, the team is no longer as sharp as it was at the beginning of the season.
Despite the poor stretch, there remains a belief within the team that the situation will change. The upcoming Friday presents a great opportunity – a crucial match against Vilnius "Žalgiris" awaits, with whom they previously played to a high-scoring draw of 3:3 in the first round.
"It’s always nice to score a goal and help the team in that way, but the most important thing is the team result. I am grateful for scoring, but I don’t take joy in the result,” said L. Sajčičius.
It seemed that this was one of the hardest matches in organizing the game. What, in your opinion, contributed to that difficulty?
We knew that "Kauno Žalgiris" has very good players, but I think we simply needed to believe in ourselves and our game more. It seemed that we showed them too much respect.
The number of team goals has clearly decreased. Where should the focus be now?
The most important thing for us is to get back on the path to victories and regain momentum.
How does this period of losses affect the atmosphere in the team?
I wouldn’t say that the team morale is low. We all understand that the recent period has been and still is challenging, but we are like a family – we stick together and believe that better days are coming.
On Friday, there will be a match against "Žalgiris." Do you remember the first encounter and does it affect your preparation?
Every match is different. There are certain principles and tactics that we analyze with the coaching staff, but I don't think it’s worth thinking too much about previous matches. The most important thing is to be prepared and focused for Friday.
Why do you think it's not possible to accumulate points – is it one specific reason or a combination of things?
In football, everything is interconnected, so there's rarely one clear reason. Our goal is to learn from losses and grow.
Personally, this is not your first goal this season. Do you feel like you're gaining momentum?
Yes, I feel good on the field. I have played successfully in this country before, and I enjoy competing here. I know what I can give to the team, so I always strive to help with my quality – that is my main goal.
What should be the main focus in preparation for "Žalgiris"?
The main focus should be on ourselves – believing in our strengths and trusting in our abilities and quality.
